Taupo and Turangi are located on Highway 1 linking Auckland and Wellington.  Tongariro Lodge is easy to find, just north of Turangi on the banks of the Tongariro River, and close to the southern shores of Lake Taupo.

 

FLIGHTS

 

Flights to Auckland and Wellington operate daily

from Sydney. Flights to Rotorua from Sydney are offered a couple of times per week.

 

There are twice daily flights from Auckland to Taupo. The flight time is about 40 minutes.

• Auckland - 4 hours

• Wellington - 4 hours

• Hamilton - 2 hours

• Rotorua - 1½ hours

• Taupo - 40 minutes

• Tongariro National Park - 40 minutes

• Tongariro Alpine Crossing - 30 minutes

• Skiing - 40 minutes

 

GETTING TO THE LODGE

Car hire is available from Taupo airport. 

 

A private car from Auckland is around NZ$800. 

​

Car hire also available from Auckland Airport if you wish

spend the afternoon working you way down to the Lodge.

It’s an easy drive.

 

Please note when organising your trip check all connecting flights between Taupo and Auckland/Wellington.  Quite often there is an early morning or late afternoon flight from Taupo, so an overnight stay in Auckland/Wellington might be necessary.

 

On the way home, if you find yourself in Auckland with a significant wait until your international flight, the Villa Maria Winery is a 5 min drive from the terminal and is open for lunch, wine tasting and tours.
